Part 7: Romantic films..

Now is the time to pull out all the romantic films you love. Yay! We Spinsters love movies! Old and New and all the ones that are Positively Girlie. I have ideas for your movie choices. How about a girl party? sure. How about a valentines babysitting job? sure. Lets start with the old "talkies."

1. Girl Crazy - Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland!
2. The Philadelphia Story - Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant.
3. Little Women 1949 - June Allison, Peter Lawford.
4. Meet Me in St. Louis - Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien.

19. How to Marry a Millionaire - Lauren Becall, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable.
20. Jane Eyre 1943 - Orson Welles, Joan Fontaine.

Or perhaps you are going to "sit on the grandkids" this Valentines day? Just because you'll watch kid shows doesn't mean you can't watch a romance. Disney is chalk-full of princess movies. And if, by chance, you are watching little man-cubs, perhaps Robin Hood would be a better choice? "Love. It seems like only yesterday..."

1. Mary Poppins - "Cream of the crop, tip of the top, it's Mary Poppins and there we stop."
2. Sleeping Beauty - "The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam.."
3. Robin Hood - "Life is brief but when it's gone, love goes on and on.."
4. Enchanted - "I've been dreaming of a true loves kiss. And a prince I'm hoping comes with this."
5. Beauty and the Beast - "She glanced this way. I thought I saw.. and when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw. No it can't be. I'll just ignore. But then she's never looked at me that way before."
6. Cinderella - "Cinderella, You're as lovely as your name, Cinderella..."
7. Tangled - "I have dreams like yours. no really! Just much less touchy-feeley."

It's hard to find good modern movies. Here are some romantic chick flick picks.
1. While You Were Sleeping - Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman.
2. Sleepless in Seattle - Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks.
3. A Walk in the Clouds - Keanu Reeves.
4. You've Got Mail - Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks.
5. The Man From Snowy River - Jim Craig, Jessica. (wait...)
6. 27 Dresses - James Marsden, Katherine Heigl.
7. Letters To Juliet - Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave.
{Use your own discretion with these modern movies. Some of these movies have parts that we fast-forward.}

And of course now we must include these most beloved films and mini-series as they are too wonderful to be true. Yay! for costume dramas!

1. Anne of Avonlea - Don't watch this one out of order! Anne of Green Gables comes first.
2. The Young Victoria - Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend.
3. Persuasion - Amanda Root, Ciaran Hinds.
4. Bright Star - Watch it with a box of tissues. Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw.
5. Jane Eyre 2011 - Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender.
6. Little Women - Winona Rider...Louisa May Alcott...Can it get better?
7. Sense and Sensibility - Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant.
8. Miss Potter - Renee Zellweger, Ewen McGregor.
9. Lorna Doone - It's Mr. Coxe! haha! Yes. If you love him in Wives and Daughters, you'll love him in this.
10. Emma - Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeremy Northam.
11. Pride and Prejudice 2005 - Keira Knightly, Matthew MacFadyen.
12. Pride and Prejudice 1995 - Jennifer Ehle, Colin Firth.
13. Ever After - Gustave! Drew Barrymore.
14. The Phantom of the Opera - Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum.
15. Wives and Daughters - There are so many wonderful people in it, I don't know who to name...
16. North & South - Richard Armitage, Daniela Denby-Ashe. Northbound Trains and Yellow Hedgerow Roses.. It's lovely.

Have a lovely St. Valentines day!

What great movie choices!! I will definitely be keeping that link for Anne of Avonlea - I remember watching it on the very old Disney channel when I was younger. Can't wait to revisit an old memory :]
